4 Things Every Business Owner Should do in January

January Tasks Every Business Owner Must Do

I thought I’d expand on my post and dig a little deeper into what 4 Tasks You Must Complete this January.

For those of you living under a rock recently....It’s that time of year again [aka the beginning]!. I’ve always been a fan of change and there’s something about a fresh start of a new year that adds a boost of positivity, inspiration, and motivation. In business, the new year means an opportunity to reflect on wins, challenges, and opportunities while instilling new goals and creating new habits. So what should we be doing in January to propel our business and lives forward? Here are four things to check off your lists this month…and you’re not going to want to miss any of them.

+Annual Marketing Plan

If you haven’t already, it’s time to draft your marketing plan for the year. There are many free templates online that you can use as a foundation. Your marketing plan has a similar structure to a business plan and will be a solid blueprint for the year. Starting a new year without knowing exactly how you’ll reach, engage, and retain new customers is a clumsy mistake. Don’t risk spending marketing dollars inefficiently by not having a structured strategy. And of course, if you need help in these efforts, it’s what I do for a living. I’m here for you guys.

+DeClutter

DeClutter, DeClutter, DeClutter! Clean out your car, clean out your filing cabinets, clean out your pantry, clear your desk. You get the idea. DeClutter everything. Organizing is one of the biggest keys to success. When your space is clear and under control, so is your mind. Take an afternoon to crack out on some cleaning and it’ll be much easier to maintain throughout the year.

+Raise Prices

And don’t be shy about it. You should have annual growth goals for your business, and raising your prices will help you meet those goals. You don’t need to go crazy, but as the market inflates & hard costs increase, so should your prices for goods/services.

+Remove Weak Links

In personal and professional life, there are negative nancy’s who can meander in and make things more difficult for you. If there is an employee that you know you need to let go but have been putting it off, the new year is the time to cut the cord. If you have a friend or colleague who is draining your time and energy with negativity, it’s time to reevaluate and create boundaries. The new year is all about capitalizing on opportunity - so trim off any fat thats trying to drag you down.
